As we eagerly set up The District, placing gorgeous orchid centrepieces and floral arrangements partially donated by South Trail Panda Flowers, there was an underlying excitement and anticipation of how special the 1st Fearless Women Day Celebration was going to be.
From the moment the first guests arrived, the atmosphere was filled with connection and inspiration. Conversation, hugs and laughter filled the room as women from all walks of life gathered on this special evening. Among the mothers, sisters, entrepreneurs, authors, and businesswomen were survivors of cancer, attempters of suicide and battlers of MS – who all dazzled and radiantly stood in their power and fearlessness.
Our Fearless emcee Cara Fullerton of Global TV introduced the incredible array of sponsors and donors who helped make this evening possible. Everyone was enthralled by the evening’s entertainment provided by SLAM Poets and Spoken Word artisits Jen Kunlire, Sheri-D Wilson and Orunamamu Morning Star. With the highlight of Sheri-D standing tall and strong on a bar stool speaking her personally written original for Fearless Women in Alberta.
The event highlighted and raised over $3,000 for “Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids Society” through a portion of ticket sales and an incredible raffle table that included prizes such as a chocolate bouquet, numerous gift certificates and 2 pairs of tickets to the BeKnown Workshop worth $4000.
The list of nominees and their stories for the first Fearless Woman Award was impressive, inspiring and 
heart-warming making the final decision extremely difficult. Congratulations to ~Michele Harshenin~ who beat out over 50 nominations to accept the Fearless Woman Award. The room fell silent as Michele shared her story of abuse, depression, forgiveness and courage.
“Because of my father, my abuser, my teacher, I am who I am today. I am a woman of strength, compassion, faith and love. I have dedicated my life to empowering others, to helping others see the miraculous gifts in themselves and the circumstances of their lives.” she said.
Fearless Women Day August 26, 2011 is sure to be even more incredible with a year to plan! In 29 days the Fearless Women Calgary event became the highest attended event of the 12 events taking place simultaneously around North America.
