Day 10 – 100 Day Commitment

Continuing with Being in Love: How to Love with Awareness and Relate Without Fear by Osho, I am taking away golden nuggets of wisdom about love.  At night I have started sitting out on the deck with the light on, wrapped in a blanket and reading, as I do in the morning.  The fresh air and being outside is such a gift.  Osho talks about being aware of every step, every moment – being present with love.

“Start becoming more and more a witness.  Whatever you do, do it with deep alertness; then even small things become sacred.  Then cooking or cleaning become sacred.  It is not a question of what you are doing; the question is how you are doing it.  You can clean the floor like a robot, a mechanical thing; you have to clean it, so you clean it.  Then you miss something beautiful.  Then you waste those moments in only cleaning the floor.  Cleaning the floor could have been a great experience and you missed it.  The floor is clean now, but something that could have happened within you has not happened.  If you had been aware, not only the floor but you would have felt a deep cleansing.”

I have heard this wisdom and message many times, one I recall fondly from my friend Jackie Dumaine at her Yoga Code Workshop.  I remember how it felt to eat a treat with my eyes closed, visualizing where the food originated, the love it took to prepare and ready the food for this very moment.  As I savoured the delicious treat in my mouth; experiencing every burst of flavour, being aware and present – I was overcome with such a deep pleasure and love for the simplest act of eating. This is exactly what Osho is referring to being present to the moment with love and awareness.

“In life, everything is changing and change is beautiful; it gives you more and more experience, more and more awareness, more and more maturity.”

Ah yes, change.  To resist it or be in love with it, now that is the plight and struggle of so many in society today, including me.  I have always been adaptable and willing to embrace change.  For the most part I have welcomed it with open arms, knowing the lessons on the other side.  There are times though, that I am stretched to accept this as true.

I am excited to be joining my daughter and her grade 7 class on a two day camp trip, experiencing four elements of nature. Much will be revealed over the next couple of days, knowing what’s in store and a couple of fears I am about to face is a little scary, yet exhilarating.  Knowing I will be present with my daughter is such a gift. Being present with 18 teenagers, well I’ll let you know how that goes.  We then come home and go right into a family weekend camp trip, being with nature this weekend and the people I love is such a gift, that I am so grateful for.

How can you be more present and find love in the simple things?

Have a wonderful weekend.

Great question Lee for us all. I met a 90 year old man that told me to be grateful for red traffic lights. He said instead of cursing them, to use the time to breathe deeply in and out until the light turns green again. It is amazing how that simple act helps you to be more present and actually has you looking forward to red lights! Have a fantabulous time camping. Be present to the signs nature has to show you. I can’t wait to here. Sending loads of sunshine and faery magic.
