These three words have been sticking to me like glue the past two days… So tonight on the way home I thought okay it’s time to blog – it’s been a while! What to write though… thanks Kari for our FB chat and your wise words “let the words flow through your fingertips.” So here I go…
One of the thoughts that came to me today is how much I have been harping on my 7 year old for whining, then today I had a huge AHA… Last night I met a wonderful Mom who proudly shared with me the story of her own 7 year old Lucas who has raised over $2000 through his Lemonade Stand. Today I shared this with my own daughters 7 yrs old & 10 yrs old… My 10 yr old says “Mommy when are you going to help me get my website going?” – she paints animal cartoon characters and donates the money as well as volunteers for ICAN in Windermere. Just then the whiney voice of my 7 year old came out…. “Aubrey does something, what can I do?” in that moment I realized I am focusing on the whining instead of the Shining… and she shines a huge bright light! So my lesson…
SHINE…. My daughter is finding her place in the world, empower her to discover it and focus on how she shines vs WHINE… constantly harping on her about whining
So with that story being shared… think about all the times you whine about something… laundry, not enough time, too many emails, what others think… I know I do all these… So how can you Shine and not Whine… it’s all in reframing!
SHINE…… I am going to put on some great music and dance around and have fun doing laundry (believe me it works!!!) VS WHINE… I hate doing laundry, OMG I have 4 loads to do, there are so many other better things I can be doing….
SHINE…… I have exactly the right amount of time I need VS WHINE…. I just don’t have enough time, I am always so busy, when will I be able to do this, when will I be able to do that…
SHINE…. I choose to accept people as they are VS WHINE… I am so sick of how she talks to people, carries on and she only talks to me when she needs something.
So what can you SHINE and don’t WHINE about???
